Archaeology Field Program San Bernardino Forest Faculty

Project Directors

Dr. Bill Sapp received his Ph.D. from UCLA. He has conducted research in Peru, India, and California. He currently serves as the Forest Archaeologist for the San Bernardino National Forest. 

Mr. McCarthy has spent more than 30 years practicing Southern California archaeology. He is an expert in native plant use, aboriginal trails, rock art, and lithics. He currently serves as the Tribal Program Manager for the San Bernardino National Forest. 

Ms. Gina Griffith received her BA in archaeology from Oberlin University and a master’s degree in ethnology from the University of Paris. She currently serves as the Assistant Forest Archaeologist, and is a doctoral candidate at the Free University of Brussels, specializing in Saharan and sub-Saharan rock art.
