China: Yangguanzhai Archaeological Project

TRAVEL:

You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. Please plan to arrive in Xi’an by June 20th, 2010.

 

Flying to China: You can fly to China using a number of airlines, including Asiana Airlines, Air China International, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, and others. You may fly through Beijing (PEK), Shanghai (PVG), Guangzhou (CAN), or Hong Kong (HKG).

 

Reaching Xi’an: you can take an overnight train to Xi’an from Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou, or you can take a flight to Xi’an (XIY). Train schedules will be provided when available. Airport pickup is set once for Sat. June 19th at at 3:00pm, and twice on June 20th at 1:00pm and 5:00pm. If you travel by train, take a taxi to the West Gate of Xibei University (Xi’bei daxue ximen ), asking for the building of the Guoji wenhua jiaoliu xueyuan (College of International Exchanges). A host for the SAFSA‐UCLA program will be waiting at the front desk of the building from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, June 20th, 2010.

 

For those who arrive at other times or miss meeting times, please contact Dr. Ye Wa at ++86 132 4076‐0047( China). ATM cards can be used to withdraw Chinese currency at the airport or major banks in China, e.g. Zhongguo yinhang (Bank of China), Zhongguo gongshang yinhang (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China), or Zhongguo nongye yinhang (Agricultural Bank of China).

VISA

A passport with at least six months of validity remaining is required. U.S. citizens need a visa to go to China. Northwest University will send students a letter of invitation. With the invitation, students may apply for a visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulates in the United State.
