Profile

Katrina Kuxhausen-DeRose is pursuing a PhD in Archaeology at UCLA, with a focus in Classical Archaeology. Her research interests include cultural heritage, digital archaeology, landscape, architecture, reuse, memory, and gender studies within ancient Greece and Rome. She began researching this region after her first study abroad trip, when she saw the narratives of the ancient Mediterranean come alive through the age-old monuments of the past standing before her. This inspired Katrina to acquire her BAs in History, Anthropology, and Classics, and complete her MA in Classical Archaeology at the University of Arizona. Through digital archaeology and public history projects, she has worked to publish information and models online, provide avenues of research for all members of the public, and promote sustainable tourism to cultural heritage areas. Additionally, she has pursued her passion for protecting cultural artifacts and broadening our collective understanding of the past through her fieldwork with the Campo della Fiera Field School, Poggio del Molino Archeodig, Mt. Lykaion Excavation and Survey Project, Valle Gianni Field School, Parrhasian Heritage Park Field School, and UCLA-SFU Gefyra Program. In the future, she wishes to continue addressing the complexities of the archeological record and improving accessibility to historical information through educational outreach.
