Sacred Valley of the Incas
Peru
June 22 - August 2, 2008
A pleasant yearlong climate and fertile lands has made the Sacred Valley the favorite resort area for the Inca emperors and then the later Spanish conquistadors. Students in this project will learn of the culture and history of the Andes by living and studying in this diverse and historically important region. They will be living and traveling at a high elevation (Between 8,000 to 11,600 feet above sea level). The months of June and July are generally warm in the Sacred Valley with the nights slightly cold. The final week of the course will involve a moderately strenuous hike to the subtropical ruins of Machu Picchu.
