Travel

You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements. Please plan to arrive at the Juliaca airport (JUL) on Sunday, July 12th by 3 p.m.

Students will be meet at the airport and transferred to the Puno hotel by project staff.  If you will be traveling in Peru before the project, plan to arrive in Puno the same date and time (we will provide bus pick-up).

There are various daily international flights from the US to Lima and multiple daily domestic flights from Lima to Juliaca (Lan Peru Airlines). If traveling from Cuzco or other areas in the region, please avoid night buses for safety reasons.

Visa Requirements

A valid passport is required to enter and depart Peru.  Tourists must also provide evidence of return or onward travel.  U.S. citizens may enter Peru for short-term tourist- or business-related visits of up to 90 days; however, the actual period authorized is determined by the Peruvian immigration officer at the time of entry into Peru.  After admission, travelers may apply to extend their visa for an additional three months. Please visit the US State Department web page for additional information.

Tourist visas are issued at Peru's Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima. All flights in Peru, both domestic and international, are subject to an airport fee.  Fees change frequently but are approx. $37 for international flights and $7 for domestic flights.

If you plan to travel to neighboring countries during your stay, please visit their respective web pages through the State Department. For example, both Chile and Bolivia require an entry fee ($100 and $135 dollars, respectively) and Bolivia requires evidence of a yellow fever vaccination. Please come prepared!
