Pukara Archaeological Project
Peru
Summer 2010
Take part in the historically significant exploration of Pukara, meaning “fortress." The site is famous for its massive stone architecture, beautiful multicolored pottery, and elaborate stone carvings. You'll have the opportunity to excavate in the site’s center and its edges, exploring the lives of both the elites and commoners.
Pukara is located close to Lake Titicaca in the altiplano region of Peru and Bolivia, a high elevation plain ringed by snow-capped mountains. The region is truly breathtaking and attracts visitors from around the world.
Living and working in the Lake Titicaca Basin is challenging physically, but is a guaranteed adventure that will be rewarding both personally and intellectually.
