Computer Modeling of Archaeological Ruins
Peru
Summer 2010
Curriculum
Prerequisites: NoneRequired Course:
Archaeology C159 (Undergraduates): 12 quarter units
or
Archaeology C259 (Graduate Students): 12 quarter units
Please note that to receive graduate credit you must currently be a graduate student seeking either an MA or Ph.D. degree. In addition to all other course requirements, students enrolled at the C259 level must submit a research paper in coordination with the project Faculty Director.
This course will have four instructional segments: Close-Range (Terrestrial) Digital Photogrammetry, Terrestrial Laser Scanning, Modern Global Positioning System Mapping, Visualization.
Students in this project will learn important skills for three dimensional computer modeling: 1) Introduction to digital recording equipment (laser scanner, laser transit, differential GPS) and modeling programs (AutoCAD, Maya, PhotoModeler, ArcGIS) at Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas, 2) Travel to Machu Picchu – the lost jungle city of the Incas – and model the site, 3) Digital work, processing, and project presentation.
