Archaeology Panama Transportation

Travel

You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements.  Please plan to arrive in Bocas del Toro by July 5, as classes will begin on Monday, July 7 at 9:00 a.m.  Upon arrival students will be transported to the ITEC field station at Drago.

We recommend flying directly to the Tocumen International Airport (airport code: PTY) and either spending the night in Panama City or allowing plenty of time (five hours) for the flight to Bocas del Toro (the old Albrook AFB).

A number of airlines fly to Panama City. The best prices are typically associated with the purchase of an international flight originating in the U.S.  Continental airlines and its partner COPA both fly to Tocumen.  COPA flies the only direct nonstop from LAX to Tocumen.  Tickets can be purchased electronically.

Two airlines (Aeroperlas and AirPanama) fly from Panama City's domestic airport (old Albrook AFB) to Bocas del Toro.  Tickets can be purchased electronically.

Visa Requirements

All U.S. passport holders are required to purchase a tourist card for entry into Panama. Visa cost is $5.00 and can be purchased at the airport.
