Faculty

Dr. Ioanna Kakoulli is Assistant Professor of Archaeological Materials Science and Conservation at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the UCLA/Getty Conservation Program and co-director of the  Laboratory of Materials Research in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (LMR) at UCLA. She is also co-director of two projects: the Tarapacá Valley Archaeological Project and ByzanTiuM (Byzantine Techniques and Materials) in Cyprus. Dr. Kakoulli has coordinated and taught many international conservation field projects in Spain, Cyprus, Greece, England and Italy and participated as instructor and university faculty in many international programs all over the world. In June 2007, she coordinated the international course on Diagnostic Imaging and Photo-Documentation in collaboration with LACMA and ICCROM in Rome with the participation of 11 participants from 10 different countries. This course was principally funded with the generous support of the Kress Foundation.

Dr. Christian Fischer is Research Associate at the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA and Consultant for the LACMA museum. He is co-director of the Laboratory of Materials Research in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (LMR) at UCLA and the project ByzanTiuM in Cyprus. His expertise is in geoarchaeology and conservation of building materials with focus on non-invasive methods of in situ investigations of archaeological materials, soils, rocks and minerals.
