Okavango Archaeological Research Project
Botswana
Summer 2010

Argentina Field Program Overview

Discover the rich heritage of the Okavango Delta region of northern Botswana where human occupation began in the Stone Age. This new research project will explore the region through a program of archaeological survey and excavation. Working alongside colleagues and students from the University of Botswana and the National Museum of Botswana, you'll gain experience by investigating a range of archaeological sites, techniques and methods. This program will ensure that the archaeological record is seen in context, by looking at related issues of heritage management, cultural tourism and environmental management.

You will also benefit from visiting an area of outstanding natural beauty and diversity. The Okavango Delta is home to a wide range of wildlife including all of the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, lions, leopards, rhino). In addition, you'll visit other areas of cultural/environmental interest, with trips planned to the rock art World Heritage Site of Tsodilo.
